Interactive Learning That Actually Sticks
Active Floor transforms how children engage with learning. But only if you know how to use it.
You've got the technology. Now let's make sure it's genuinely changing how your children learn — not sitting in a corner gathering dust.
Our training takes you from setup to confident delivery to building your own content. By the end, your team will understand not just HOW to use Active Floor, but WHY it works.
Why Active Floor training matters
Active Floor is powerful technology. But technology alone doesn't change learning.
What changes learning is:
Understanding how the physical, multisensory nature of the floor removes barriers (especially for neurodivergent learners)
Knowing how to pace and facilitate so children are genuinely engaged, not just distracted
Being able to build your own content so the floor reflects YOUR curriculum, not generic games
Having confidence to troubleshoot when things don't work, and adapt when they need to
That's what this training does. It takes you from "we have this kit" to "we're using this kit for maximum impact."
What you get
Three Training Packages. Choose What Works for You.
Package 1: Remote Onboarding or Follow-Up Training
2 hours online
Perfect for: Teams wanting to get started remotely, or existing users wanting a refresher.
In this session we'll cover platform basics, explore ready-made games, and get you comfortable with the fundamentals. You'll leave able to run a session independently.
Package 2: In-Person Onboarding or Follow-Up Training
2.5 hours in your setting
Perfect for: Teams wanting hands-on support, or existing users needing on-the-ground refresher training.
We meet in person at your venue. You'll see the equipment in action, learn setup and troubleshooting in your actual space, and try games with your team. You'll understand not just the tech, but how it fits into your real teaching day.
Package 3: Complete Onboarding Programme
2.5-hour in-person session + 3 further 2-hour remote sessions
Perfect for: Teams wanting deep support and the confidence to build their own content.
Session 1 (In Person): Get started with setup, explore games, understand the fundamentals in your space.
Session 2 (Remote): Building your own games — creating bespoke activities tailored to your curriculum.
Session 3 (Remote): Making it yours — custom branding, graphics, publishing your finished content.
Session 4 (Remote): Personalised to you. We discuss what you actually need (advanced skills, content development, troubleshooting) and deliver that.
By the end, you'll have built your own complete games, understood your own teaching context, and be genuinely confident running Active Floor sessions.
First up, meet your trainer
I'm Helen — educator, creative, and the UK's only official Active Floor trainer.
I came to Active Floor through my business, ISWaS (It Started With a Sloth), where I create climate education and play experiences for children. The moment I started using the interactive floor in my sessions, something shifted. Children who'd been hovering at the edges were suddenly in the middle of the room. Topics that can feel heavy and overwhelming became joyful and physical and fun. The floor didn't just change how they were learning — it changed how they felt about learning.
That's what I want for your setting too.
With over 20 years in education across all ages and abilities — spanning the classroom, creative workshops, and curriculum design — I know what it actually looks like when technology lands well with children, and when it doesn't. Active Floor lands well. But only when the people using it feel genuinely confident with it. That's what these sessions are all about.
By the time we've finished, you won't just know how to run a game. You'll have your own bespoke, branded content, a clear sense of where it fits in your timetable, and — I hope — a little of that same feeling I had when I first saw a room full of children absolutely come alive.
Let's get started.
Why this works
It's practical, not theoretical. We don't spend hours on PowerPoints. We get hands-on, try games, build content, solve real problems that come up in real classrooms.
It's tailored to you. Your year groups. Your subjects. Your team's starting point with technology. The training shapes itself around what's actually useful for YOUR context.
It's ongoing. Training doesn't end on session day. You'll join our Skool community (free) where you get peer support, live troubleshooting, resource sharing, and access to refresher sessions if you need them.
It sticks. Schools that do proper training use their Active Floor. Schools that skip training often don't. These sessions are specifically designed so the investment in the technology actually pays off.
The online community
Come say hello!Once you've done training (or even if you already have your kit and haven't trained yet), you're welcome in our Skool community.

No training yet? That's okay. Join the community, see how it works, and access the live sessions. If you decide you want formal training, we can set that up. But many schools start by connecting with the community first.
Your Questions, Answered
-
Absolutely. No two settings are the same, and the training reflects that. Before we start I'll ask you about your year groups, your subjects, your team's confidence with technology and what you're hoping to achieve. The session structure stays consistent, but the examples, the games we explore and the content you build in sessions 2 and 3 will all be shaped around what's actually useful for you.
-
Yes — and this is actually where it started. Active Floor was originally designed with neurodiverse learners in mind, particularly autistic children, and the evidence behind it in that context is strong. The physical, multisensory nature of the floor removes a lot of the barriers that traditional learning environments create. But here's the thing — it turns out it's brilliant for all children. Big ones, small ones, reluctant learners, enthusiastic ones. Once you've seen a room full of kids on that floor, you'll understand why.
-
Pretty much anything. Literacy, numeracy, science, geography, PSHE, languages, PE — if you can turn it into a game or a question, it works on the floor. In sessions 2 and 3 you'll build content around your own curriculum, so whatever you teach, we'll make it relevant.
-
Not at all. The training is designed to take you from wherever you are right now. Whether your team are confident with technology or deeply sceptical of it, we'll go at the right pace. The pre-session questionnaire helps me understand your group's starting point so I can pitch the sessions accordingly.
-
Once you're familiar with the kit — which session 1 covers — setup is quick. Most schools are up and running in under ten minutes. We'll also cover a few common troubleshooting tips so you're not caught out if something doesn't behave on the day.
-
Yes — multiple users can have accounts at different access levels (admin, facilitator and so on). Before session 1 I'll ask you to confirm who needs access and at what level so everything is set up and ready to go.
-
Get in touch. I offer follow-up support, refresher sessions for new staff, and bespoke content design if you need games building but don't have the capacity to do it yourselves. You'll find all of that on this page, and there's a contact form below for any questions that come up along the way.

Active Floor is a significant piece of kit, and training is what makes it worth it. Schools that use the floor without proper training often find it sitting in a corner gathering dust within a few months. These sessions are designed to make sure that doesn't happen — so that the floor gets used, the children benefit, and the investment pays off.
-
This is the right question to ask — and the honest answer is that the training is where you make the investment, so that everything after it is quick.
Teachers who jump into Active Floor without proper training often spend ages hunting for the right content, rebuilding things from scratch, or simply not using the floor as much as they'd like because it feels like extra work. The three sessions are specifically designed to prevent that. By the end you'll know how to find and load content in minutes, build a new game in a fraction of the time it would take without training, and — crucially — you won't be starting from zero every time.
Here's what makes it genuinely time-efficient once you're up and running: games can be shared across your whole team, so one person's brilliant history quiz becomes everyone's. You can save and reuse templates so you're not rebuilding the structure each time. And there are ready-made game suites you can take and adapt rather than creating from scratch — think of it as a staffroom resource bank that lives on the floor.
Put the time in upfront. You'll get it back many times over.
This is just the beginning
Training doesn't have to be a one-off. As your team grows and changes, we can offer:
Refresher Training — New staff joining? Full team refresh? We can deliver that.
Bespoke Content Design — You know what you want to achieve but don't have time to build it? We'll design and build custom games tailored to your curriculum.
Event Support — Running a big event where Active Floor is part of the show? We can take the pressure off and run the activities.
Get in touch to discuss what ongoing support might look like for you.
